cheapest tape and cutting digital pc transfering to tape

What's the best and cheapest place to buy half inch 456 tape and.....

Would I still get the same warm analog effect if I cut tracks to my nuendo rig for ease of editing, comping etc., and then when I'm happy with the music, dump it all down to my eight track TSR 8 and record it hot to get natural compression and saturation.
I want to try to get the best performance I can, hence the nuendo, and the best sound, hence the tape.

Any thoughts?

how does recording in nuendo help your performance? I guess its just a personal thing, but stuff always sounds better to me when its played out live and I know I have to have a "perfect" take. Your performance shouldn't sound better in one recording medium over another....either way...if you do it like you are thinking its going to warm up your tracks a bit, but you arent going to get the same results as tape first IMHO....of course I'm sure it has a lot to do with how good your digital equipment is. Try doing your recording to tape, and if you must edit, etc. in the computer domain do it after you have recorded first to analog

again, this is my own personal opinion, experiment and see what works best for you

smuffjules,
The schlong one is right so just Nix the Nuendo, then ask where you can buy good tape at a reasonable price & you a) will have done yourself a favour & b) not offended anyone's sensibilities.
You won't get many who disagree with the man on this forum with regard to where you should begin your storage process.
I've just upgraded my soundcard so that I can take 8 tape tracks in as I prefer to put it to tape 1st.
Cheers

I know that tape has that sound that you just can't get with digital.
I want the editing capabilites of nuendo for the ultimate comped take. I also understand that a great live take with the whole band playing beats the clinical sounding perfection of a comped take. I realize I've just contradicted myself. I guess I want the best of both worlds. Hey, I don't want to offend anyone's sensibilities here. I'm with you guys on analog, that's why I just bought a TSR 8. I would like to try to integrate all the gear I have to get the best results I can.
So, what about the best, cheapest way to get tape that's not on ebay?

Also try Neemann Media below. These could be old prices, but it can't hurt to give 'em a call:

As always check shipping costs for all the above to get the true best total cost.

If you want a whole carton of 7 National Audio has a good price, but they don't sell them one at a time:

Last but not least, Quantegy now sells direct on-line (page loads slow)
