Cassette tape to CD copying

What software is available to copy audio tape to hard disk, or tape to CD? I am wanting to copy seminar audio tapes to CD so I can play them in my car (without a cassette player).

What audio format should I use? High fidelity is not needed.

Easy CD creater 5 says it can do it but I do not want to pay $90 for the software.

You should be able to do this with the software that comes with your sound card and CD rom burner (if you don't have one of each, you won't be able to do this at all of course...). Plug your cassette's output into the line input of your sound card and record it using your sound card's software. Once it's recorded to your hard drive, use your CD rom burner software to create a "music" (not data) CD.
