    Buying a Tascam 388...

Iím wanting to try and buy a Tascam 388 and wondered if anyone could advise of what I should be looking out for, price/condition/pitfall wise?

Are parts still readily available for these?

Iíve seen a number for sale on reverb but there mainly in the states so would rather buy one in UK if possible to save on the insane postage/import tax costs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on where to look for one (obviously Iíve got searches on eBay/reverb etc) and what to look for if I find one?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Last I heard, the heads were practically unobtainable (and they are specific to this machine) so the head condition is the major factor.
We've also seen a few people here having the mixer outputs fail to switch properly, caused by one of the logic chips failing. That's less of a problem because that chip is still in production, but it is still something to be aware of.
