For right now and probably the foreseeable future too.
One inch, half track stereo running at 15 or 30 ips is an insane amount of quality to work with. That would produce such a thick, rich sound that you could drown in it.
Digital in it's wildest wet dreams, doesn't come close to this format in terms of information density.
It's like comparing 5 x 5 film to a 4 mega-pixel camera.
To ask for more is just silly.
