Hey guys,

SO! Opinions please. What preamp would you rather have for rock vocals/guitars?

1. Neve Portico 5017
2. BAE Desktop Mic Pre (DMP)
3. Daking Mic Pre One
4. Great River ME-1NV

Say with an SM7b, Mojave MA-200, or EV Re-20, just as an idea for mic.

Not that I know of. I live in Norway, but Im searching to see if there is anywhere in Oslo that may have them. But, I dont think so. Unfortunate, eh?

YUP that is always tough radloot.
There may be many who will respond to this post with their experiences of what may sound good as a microphone and preamp combination.
But not until you hear your own voice through the combination will you know that's what your looking for.
I know that in *my head* there is a sound that I'm looking for and some times it takes a while before I can find it in reality.

...the GR ME-1NV is my "go to" mic pre for vocals (I also use an SM7 and MA-200 among other mics)...can't miss with the Great River...versatile and built like a tank...highly recommended! ;)

You won't like the answer but it depends on the vocalist.

If the vocalist has a nice edge to their voice in the right range (think David Lee Roth) the Portico or Great River would be the ones I would plug in first.

If the vocalist had great range and good breath control, then I might want to cover it with the Daking or BAE. Thinking Bon Jovi here.

None of them will make or break a great performance however.
