ok, weird question,
but i got this patchbay from a friend,
its old, got plastic connectors but it works,

it doesn't have a model number or so,
this is all info i got:

Re An (or is it Revan ?)
patching system

and on the left i read:
AP audio, a division of ACE Producs

on the top i see instructions to make the patchbay
"normalled/half normalled"
"denormalled"
"paralled"

now my questions are:

is this patchbay balanced?
and how do i change the configuration, can this only be done by soldering?
i've never touched a such a soldering circuit...but i sure wanna try to MOD this patch, since its a free gift :)

so if u don't have the answer to these questions,
then maybe you know a nice site or tutorial about soldering and modding
patchbays?

thanks alot!

It probably is balanced, although Re'An does make make some unbalanced models.

To change the normalling, you merely loosen the plastic nuts and flip the PCI cards around. No soldering required. I can give you more detailed instructions after I get home from work.

I have 4 of their patchbays in my set-up, and i think they're great.

I have a REAN AP patchbay as well, and it is balanced. But I think they made unbalanced as well. You might want to pull a card and look at the traces. If it is balanced, there should be three traces soldered to each of the jacks. And like MadAudio said, you change the normalling by flipping the cards.

thanks !
yes, there are three traces soldered, so i guess its balanced,
but its super annoying, the inserts of my mixing desc are unbalanced !
DOH, so i'm gonna try to get rid of it and replace....

so Madaudio, if you could give some more details about flipping those cards, would be great !!

i did swap a few of the "slots", or how u call it,
i did notice some change of the routing of the signal,
but it wasnt clear,
tomorrow i'm gonna re-connect everything in the home studio,
so i'm gonna try to figure out what happens when i turn those "slots" upside down and stuff...

but in how many directions can u flip it?
upside down....and...ehm....

i'm learning !
cheers

You can still use it with unbalanced gear. As for the card flipping, I'll post again when I get home from work.

If you still decide you want to get rid of it, then I might make you an offer for it.
