K so im looking for a/some mic pres to go with a delta 44, my behringer mixer has built in ones but im aware the quality of those will probably negate the quality of any nice mics i might get, or even my humble SM58. This dbx one looks quite nice, any thoughts? I cant afford to spend huge amounts on pre's, is it worth upgrading the pre's in my mixer to a tube pre such as this one?

Look at the dBx 286A preamp - for $200 at musician's friend it offers way better quality and features. If your dBx mini-pre ($99) doesn't give you the sound you want, you have little way to adjust it.

Good mic plus cheap preamp = cheap sound
Bad mic plus good preamp = cheap sound

You have to think of a good mic sending its signal to a preamp which then can either improve or mess up the mic signal which you'll be recording.

There are also models from Nady and ART in this price range.
