cables..continued...

an instrument cable is a TS cable(tip sleeve), it is unblalanced.

a TRS(tip ring sleeve) is a balanced cable.

TS has one ring on it, TRS has two rings on it.

if you do a search on this subject you will find tons of information, as this is asked all the time

the thing is i was doing some research on it and it was explaining trs and ts but at the end it said

NEVER MIX UP YOUR TS CABLES AND YOUR INSTRUMENT CABLES

it never exlpained why ...so ..i was just curious

Maybe they meant not to mix up TRS and instrument?

I use "instrument cables" and ts cables interchangeably. The only difference i have found is that "instrument cables" seem to be more rugged and better build usually.

My friend was trying to get both of his channels on his pre to record into his stereo sound card. A normal guitar cable wouldn't work, I told him to get a one with 2 rings on the tip and then it worked. I don't know much about electronics/cables so I don't know...but the one with just one ring didn't work, everything recorded mono. He couldn't record 2 separate tracks until he used the one with 2 rings.
