question on syncing MIDI to SMPTE

I posted this in the "techniques" forum but no one seems to know, so I thought I'd try here. Thanks in advance.

I'm about to embark on my first recording project in over a year. I'm recording to tape but using some digital gear. I inted to stripe my tape with SMPTE using a JL Cooper PPS 100. This machine will also convert the SMPTE to MTC. My question has to do with the Boss DR770. I was reading the manual and it does cover sync options but still left me a little confused. Does anyone know if it's possible to tell the 770 when to start based on SMPTE/MTC positions? (I know that's what syncing is, but it didn't really cover how to set start/stop positions.) Below is a link to the manual online. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cant really help with the specifics of that machine but if you are using cubase, there is a plugin that will generate SMTPE on an audio track that will follow the track position so you could easily test it
