Old Casio WK1630, how to use MIDI?

Well since I am working on my studio I decided that having a keyboard would be a great addition so I pulled my old keyboard out of its box and set it up. Currently I am using the headphone out jack to go into my mixer since I don't have a midi cable. With that said what advantages will a midi cable offer me? Won't that be adapted down to a 1/4" connector anyway and still get plugged into the mixer's line input? Or do I need a different type of interface to connect to my MAC?

Check your keyboard, I believe it has USB MIDI out - so would plug directly into your computer. You need to do some reading. MIDI is a control signal only, not audio. MIDI will allow you to use VSTi's (virtual instrument plug ins).
