Besides Band-in-a-Box, is there another MIDI software environment that will accept chord/bass names (i.e., C-Dm7-Gsus4-G-C) and allow assignment of specific sounds. What about ProTools (or a plugin for ProTools). I use version 8 on a Mac. Thanks in advance for your input.
So I haven't actually looked at BiaB in twenty years, but I take it you're looking for something that will compose parts in some given style after you tell it the chords and maybe something about the structure? SoundTrek Jammer does that pretty well. The last time I looked it had a lot of flexibility for mixing styles and even creating your own. It doesn't actually make sound of it's own though, just sends MIDI. It's up to you to route it to an appropriate synth whether it be software or hardware.
Thanks for your suggestion. I contacted the Jammer folks with some questions but they have not responded. Do you know if their software is Windows only? I use a Mac system.
