There is no best microphone existing.
Best for you is different then best for me.
Your budgets are different then mine as your income also is.
Your budget on this one is personal, and other then mine.
Your interest and what you want to achieve is different then mine.
At the end i have several best microphones which others don't want, and others have microphones i will never buy for various reasons. And all those microphones are the best.

Try microphones to find your best!
Borrow them from fellow musicians and try them.
Or borrow them in a shop. Many specialized shops have rental gear which you can try before you buy, and they will gladly let you try if they can sell.
Or buy a cheaper used one, try it, and if it doesn't fit you sell it again. That's cheaper then buying the wrong new one. If it fit's you you can keep it or even buy a new one.
And keep in mind that drums need a microphone with other specifications then vocals. But again with this you can always try and fool around as here also is no general best.

right now, Id say Shure stuff....$99 dynamic 57/58 or a $150 used KSM27 for the LDC.

if it's not happening in the room, it ain't gonna happen on tape.-H.Gerst

IIRC OP has no AI? Therefore no balanced input with sufficient quiet gain and no balanced input with phantom power.

Yeah, I know I suggested it and I have had two (just the LDC) and have been happy not to say stunned stupid by the build quality and the sound is not too shabby either (I posted some clips of me waffling and peeps did not call me an idiot) .

So, they work and give a fair level, about 10dB up on a 57 I would say, nowhere near my Sontronics LDC but that is perhaps a good thing. Well made but...QC is dreadful. I have read several posts here and other places of people having very low levels, noise and some outright buggeralls.

So, get one from 'Zon, test it out PDQ and moan like a drain if it doesn't work.

    Dave.

the foam filter, pop filter and arm is all stuff I don't have at the moment.
toss in a mic holder, cable and mic....geeez? $35? lol

QC is a familiar thing, " if " you get a good one that works...a great deal.

EV RE410 or RE510 hand held condenser Mic. They are about $250 new but I got a used one from guitar center for $100.
Gives you the best vocal recording, without picking up room artifacts, of anything I have ever tried. (And i have tried a lot)
So, if you're not going to spend hundreds of dollars treating a room and just going to record in an untreated bedroom or living room...you can't beat it IMO

Here is a recording with a EV RE410 And a RE510 used as drum over heads...drums are re order with 4 mics. The Eva's as over heads and SM 58 on the snare and kick drum mix.
The vocal is recorded with a EV RE410 just standing in the middle of an untreated square room holding the mic in my hand

I was country before they took the O out.

They're great for capturing atmos or general in front of a camera stuff, but they're not a very nice mic for anything close - a bit thin and weedy.
