Stereo Mic Question

I'm interested in getting a pair of BLUE Bluebirds to use for ORTF and XY stereo recording of ensembles. Does anyone have any feelings one way or the other towards this choice? Also, would the Focurite TwinTrak Pro be a reasonable preamp to use for these microphones? Also, are there any other large diaphragm condensers that any of you like for stereo recording as such for under $1000/pair?
 
The bluebirds appear as though they have a pretty good frequency response and such. As for ensemble recording, I'd rather use a pair of Neumann KM 184's or so. And they'd be about as much as the preamp and the pair. Also, check out the AKG 451 stereo pair. A little less even. Hope this helps,
