recording with stereo mixers

How well does a stereo mixer perform when it comes to doing

mix downs, and what added components are needed to record a

good demo if your trying to set up a small studio on a budget at home

please give me your opinion

Hey neighbor! I'm just accross the river from you.
It depends on the mixer. I've done multi tracking and mix down with an old Peavey MD-16 in another life a long time ago and you can get OK results. What kind of mixer do you have and what are you recording to?
