hi there. so i am going to buy the Studio Projects B1 microphone, cos i have heard its a good microphone for its money. Then I found out i will need a phantom power supply to run it. Is the first unit on this web page suitable?
http://www.dv247.com/bin/venda?ex=c...searchcat=&pricerange=&searchex=phantom+power

I am in the Uk, so maybe someone could recommend a good unit to get. By the way, the price for the B1 mic on that site is £62 pounds. thats not bad is it?

thanks in advance...DAVE

yea, but i dont have a preamp..does this matter?

Yes; you'll need phantom voltage to power the SP B1 mic, and a preamp to amplifiy the low level signal generated by the mic. I'm not sure what you'll be using the SP B1 with (hardware recorder, PC, Mac, whatever), but the output of the mic preamp will need to have some type of compatible connector to plug it into your recording device.

FWIW, PMI Audio Group, the people that distribute the Stubio Projects mics, have a bunch of "B stock" mics and preamps for sale, including their B1 mic and VTB-1 mic preamp, for only $70 each. Look at their "Marketplace" link at :

Most stand-alone mic pres will have phantom power, as will many of even the most inexpensive mixers. I'd think a bit more before buying a dedicated supply. You may not end up needing it. :)
