Nope, there is very little sense for brass to be there. If you check it, it is actually magnetic, in other words, mild steel. Not as good as mu-metal, but not nearly as useless (for shielding purposes, of course) as brass.
On the other hand, as you have already mentioned, there is no real good reason for it to be there, to start with--they could save a quarter.

Yeah, but it's a crazy world and getting crazier. I hear report of cell phone interference--you figure that should be way too high to be troubling, but . . . and there are some portable units with switching power supplies that spit out all kinds of garbage, and the units themselves aren't well shielded. Especially in the low end, the days of the mic in the controlled studio environment are slipping away . . .

...Phil...if I was to swap out the capsule for a K47, would anything else need to changed out, or would the capsule swap be a simple procedure?...

Its a very simple procedure and a direct fit. PM me for some more info. The only thing I would want to check is the capsule bias voltage to make sure its not too high.

In all honesty, I think they devised that case as a way to keep the transformer in position instead of rattling around. Its held in there with double sided foam tape, as you well know.

Hey kid, slightly OT but the events yesterday at the "other place" were truly shocking, although I don't know why I'd be shocked after what happened here. It's just a sad situation.
