Need to know what overhead mics to use for drums.

At the moment I'm using Audix f15 condenser mics as overheads to record drums with. They're causing the snare and cymbals (hats especially) to sound a little harsh. I was wondering what a smoother sounding and cheap'ish alternative pair would be?

Try readjusting the microphones. -- It's all in the placement of the microphones.

And also what does the recording space sound like, often the harshness is from the room sound.

try some apex 205 ribbons or cascade fatheads

AKG C430s are fairly good, though they don't look it!

I've had good results with a pair of Rode M3s.
