Mic theory question.

I accidentally got a good sound the other day and was wondering if anyone could explain the theory.

I had been just messing around recording some acoustic songs with a MXL 2003 mic and the results we're okay.

But one time I decided to also mic the acoustic guitar with a MXL 603S

When I used both mics the sound was like 400 percent better. The vocals sounded professional...I'm sure I stumbled upon some stereo image thingy.

Could anyone explain why it sounds so good this way? I mean the theory of what is going on.

I was sitting with the MXL 2003 directly in front of me on a stand 6" away.

The 603S was at a 90 degree angle from the MXL 2003 but two feet lower, laying on the computer desk, and aimed about a foot away from neck of the guitar where it meets the body.

The panning on the one track I recorded to was centered.
