Mic Placement for Clarinet?

Any sugesstions on mic placement for jazz clarinet? It will be mostly just melody, no high screechy stuff. I'll be using an SM58 (get a new mic comments not needed, I'll be making due with this one) and I'll have guitar chords and walking bass-line as a background.

Thanks for your help,

Steve,

No particular whole, since sound comes from all of the holes of the clarinet. I'd start with it 2-3 inches from the instrument in front toward the middle of the instrument then adjust accordingly. As long as the mic can pick it up, it's hard to "lose" with the clarinet.

Thanks for your help. I've got a good piano/clarinet player coming over to play a few tunes and I wasn't sure if there are any tricks to clarinet micing.

Thanks again,

The book, Modern Recording Techniques, states: "Often, the best mic placement occurs when the pickup is aimed towards the lower finger holes (angled from above)at a distance of 6" to 1'
