I'm looking to buy mics for live guitar. I'm thinking about a sm57 or e609. the e609 is more appealing to me for gigging because it can hang over the amp and I don't need to bring a mic stand. Any thoughts about this? Is the sm57 worth bringing the stand and clip?

The 57 has a bit more midrange than the Sennheiser. The Sennheiser is very convenient and will take just about any level you can turn up to.... The ONLY reason I like the Sennheiser is even when its on a stand the cable end doesnt stick out and get knocked around. I like the sound of the 57 better though.

I like the SM57 but I could use the e609 and be happy, both work fine.

It depends on your guitar tone. I find the Sennheiser to be thin and grainy compared to the 57

Are you the soundguy at these gigs? Or are you the guy that insists the soundguy use your microphone even though he's probably just going to EQ it the way he wants anyway?
