Excessive noise with AKG C3000???

Hey, I've recently purchased an AKG C3000
large diaphram condenser mic. I use it to mic
vocals and acoustic guitars by running it
through my Spirit by Soundcraft mixer with
phantom power and mic preamp. Anyway, when I
give the preamp enough juice to create a
strong enough signal to record into my PC, it
generates an extreme amount of noise. This
does NOT happen with my inexpensive cardoid
dynamic mic. Any ideas????

I did that and the Dynamic puts out the same
level of signal with MUCH less noise. Is it possible that the condenser mic needs a better preamp than the one in my mixer?

Are you sure you have the preamp at the same level for the dynamic as you do with the C3000? I've found that my preamp was at a much lower level when I used a dynamic mic.

In my case, the built-in pres on the mixing board created a vacuum when compared to the surrounding air. Since getting the ART pres I have eliminated almost all of the noise that was driving me bananas before - because I can turn the built-ins down to 0.

Figured it out. It was a defect in my mixer.
I brought it back to the store I bought it at
and we hooked it up about 30 different ways
and then discovered that with another identical mixer, it worked fine. I traded it in and everthing is great now.

Haven't had time to see how much of a difference the C3000 will make yet though.
I'm anxious to see. Should be quite and
improvement from my $40 Proformance dynamic.

Well, I finally got some time to screw around
with the new mic and I love it. Especially on
the acoustic, it's great. Thanks for the
help.
