to buy or not to buy Behringer XM8500

Hi to all mic dudes,

I've been meaning to buy a Behringer XM8500
to use with the Antares mic modeler. I have a
dynamic mic, brand "unknown" shure sm-58
wannabie and have tried it with the antares demo.
I got pleasant results. But I'm wondering if getting
the Behringer will give me better, more accurate
modeling of the expensive condensers, since the
XM8500 is in the antares list of mics. Will I waste my money
on this? Please help I'm as cheap as it gets on mics.
By the way , my pre is a Tascam 424, the older one,
pluggged into motherboard onboard sound. Yikes!
Please give me some advice, I have a an itching
disease to buy cheap gear.... cure me if this choice
is a fatal one.
 
There is no way you can get a cheap sounding dynamic mike to sound like a really expensive condenser. The mic modeler does a decent job but at the end of the day you won't have the warm sounding condenser that you are after.

Yep I agree with Christiaan. You mentioned that you you already have a cheap mic. Keep that one and save up and buy a Shure Sm57 or Sm58.

P.S.- I'm not trying to put you off from buying cheap equipment because some of it is really good but you'll thank yourself down the track if you buy at least one or two good mics.

maybe even some budget condenser. I had

hi Deen, being in Malaysia.. I kinda understand your situation and budget constraint.

I have a SM57 myself which I got used from a local studio.... maybe u can checkout studios around you... I am sure they'll hv some used stuff for sale.... just make sure they are in good condition. :)

You just gave me an idea. I'll try approaching
some studio staff, I'm sure they know of someone trying
to sell some condensers. I think they'll be a lot cheaper,
since in the Philippines, the used market is sometimes
cheaper than E-bay. Thanks man. Good to bump into someone from Asia. You know how it is in Asia, fewer options when it comes to pro-audio and instruments. The thing is , I have
to do some research on how to buy condensers first.Thanks again.
 
go to musicgoround.com and pick up a 57 or 58 for around $30-50 which is only about $10 more at most.
