I have a small hiphop studio and lately I've been getting complaints about my vocals. I have NO idea how to use a preamp. I had a tech but he has vanished. I need to know the proper settings to achieve a strong, warm vocal. Can someone please give me some advice?

Unfortunately, there are no general settings. You will actually need to learn how each piece of gear works and set it individually for each vocalist/song. The compounder appears to be a compressor, though, and not a mic preamp. What is the rest of your signal chain like? Here are some good articles on gain staging and compression: http://www.theprojectstudiohandbook.com/directory.htm

Yeah, thanks. This is a good basic description.
