Anyway to mute a mic?

Is there anyway that I can mute my own mic other than via a muted xlr cable? I want to use a clip on with a power pack and also a Rolls PM50. I would love it if there were a way to mute everything on the actual pack or on the Rolls. Of course without the loud boom.

Reason I need this is because while playing at church sometimes I have to play around to find the key and I don't want everyone to hear me honking away at the wrong notes.

Neutrik also makes a switched xlr plug . I think you can find them at most music stores.
