Volume boost for lead playing

The keyboard player in my band used my volume pedal when we played a gig on the weekend for his solos but finds it hard to get it back to the original volume without a lot of fooling around. Could he use a overdrive pedal with the drive turned way down to set the volume slightly higher for his leads or would this give to much distortion ??? Or is there a lead boost pedal made for keyboards ???

If your bandmate has a keyboard that stores the volume of each patch(program)as part of the patch,he could try storing 2 patches next to each other, say prg. 1 & prg. 2.the patches would be identical, except prg. 2 would have the volume up a notch or two.He could then toggle back and forth as needed. This would be even easier if the keyboard has a jack for prg.incdement/decrement footswitch,OR he could use a MIDI footswitch so he could keep both hands on the keys.Cheers!
