Typical use of expression pedals for gigs

Hey all,

What is your typical use of expression/volume pedals (like a Yamaha FC7 for example) for gigs? Swells for organ work? Triggering effects? I'm curious if something like this could be used like a mod wheel - in particular to trigger a rotary effect for organ patches.

I've been playing for a number of years now, but have never used one.

I use mine in home studio for fade ins and outs, rarely use it live. I do to much jumping around...lol
