Is the Roland Sound Canvas any different from normal sound modules or is it just another sound module?

Just curious because it's been getting a lot of hype around here and I wasn't able to find much info on Roland's website.

The SOund canvas sounds are good but not great; they're all sampled sounds that are compressed, so if u try EQing some bells sound at 18k, you don't really hear the fine highs.. I've been using sound canvas for almost a decade now, but i still long for a JV module.

I'd agree. The sounds aren't nearly as "phat" as a host of other choices. But it has a very competent and useful set of samples. And the unit itself produces a very quiet output.
If you've heard orchestral arrangements done by very talented MIDI arrangers on the Canvas, then you know what I mean.

The sound canvas is probably the best GENRAL MIDI box out there but if you want higher quality I'd go with one of E-Mu's Proteus line sound boxes. You can find one to fit any music style!!
totally cool!
