Entry level Synthesizer

I'm looking to buy a synthesizer, I've never actually owned one myself.

I'm not looking for simulations of real instruments, just something that gives nice synthy, spacey Dark Side of the Moon kind of sounds. It'd be nice if could also sound muddled, thick, bassy, and underwater, if that's too much to ask. I'm looking for something 350$ or less, preferably less.

How much should I expect to spend on a decent synth, and what should I look for? Someone suggested the MicroX by Korg to me, and that's at about the ceiling for what'd I pay.

Looking to buy new or used? The MicroX would give you all the synthy sounds but no real (actually what you mean is... ACOUSTIC) instruments.

Look at some of the Roland XP series for more inline of what you're looking for.

Basically you're looking for a ROMpler, so look at those categories rather than the strictly synthy ones. Think Juno-D for example, although that's double the price you're looking at.
