Hi guys - I know the archives are loaded w this but: anyone have a favorite keyboard controller for a gtr player & midi synth beginner? I will mostly be doing pads & ambient effects, no Well Tempered Clavier. I can just pick one fr a catalog but it's hard to forsee just what is useful & what my needs will be. Is it troublesome to have less keys & just change octives w a switch? Do I really need lots of controls? thanks

Here's a good one.
It has 49 keys which is enough to get both hands into use and those knobs and sliders - even though you may not think you need them now - will come in plenty handy for assigning things like soft synth parameters and even automating track levels and pan positions.
This one has a very plastic-y synth action, but to get beyond that you need to spend substantially more money. I use an Oxygen 8 which has all the controllers I need but only 25 keys, and I find it limiting enough - being primarily a guitarist - that I'm making one of these my next purchase.
