Hi ! I have a Roland S30 which( is basically the same thing than a s80) and the beast aka Roland Jv1080...

I'm a complete newbie to synths, myself trying to learn like your alone, So I connected the MIDI OUT to my s30, the MIDI IN in the 1080;

Set the Channel to 1 in my jv1080

here my setup in my s30

Recv 1 Trans 1 Local on DevNo 1

All this on the perform mode with master keyboard enabled
do I need extra cables?

but i have no sound out of the jv1080.. any solution?

Im about to throw this keyboard to the next window I see !!!!!!

Quick question, dumb but I am going to ask, do you have audio out on both keyboards? MIDI only transmits the notes, not the sound.

Also, MIDI out from the master to MIDI in to the slave. Seems you have your channels correct.

All audio to an amp/PA on each one.

If I answered the obvious, my apologies.

Basically my Jv1080 is only connected to my synth with the midi cable;

My synth is connected to the jv1080 and the amp

I no longer have a 1080, but I do have a 5080 - there should be a MIDI indicator led on the front right side of the 1080. That light should flash for each received midi event. If it is not flashing when you play notes on the s30, your s30 is not transmitting MIDI.
My first step would be to test that, and if the led blinks use some headphones to see if the 45080 is generating sound.
