Tung oil on a neck?

notCardio

I walk the line
Looking at unfinished necks.

Can you tung oil a neck, or will that be sticky?

Can you sand it once you oil it, like you can with lacquer or poly?

Do you put tung on the fretboard (rosewood) too, or just lemon oil?

Can you just lemon oil the whole thing? (knowing you'll have to reapply it periodically)

Yeah, you can use tung oil. It will work well with the neck or fretboard. You'll have to let it dry. That might take a while. A week, more maybe.

You'll need to google to confirm, but I think you cannot put lacquer on tung oil, but Poly is okay.. after the oil dries. Hell, you can put poly on anything.

If I use tung oil, I won't WANT to put anytihng over it. I just didn't know if you could use that on a neck.

Can you still sand the back of the neck afterwards (after it dries)?

---------- Update ----------

I just want something that's so satin, it's pretty much like there isn't anything on it at all.

Rub in tung oil over a couple of days. Steel wool before the next coats. You can put on a couple of coats a day. Let the thing hang to dry for about 2 weeks.

Steel wool with fine grit (0000)

Won’t feel sticky at all once cured.

Don’t finish with anything except maybe a coat of paste wax, beeswax, tre wax.

Buff the shit out of it then install and play
:)
