Essex basses? or something else fretless and cheap?

Anyone have any experiance with Essex Basses? I am looking at a 169 dollar fretless jazz to mess with for some fretless sounds. Kind of strapped for cash so looking for something cheap.

Also have a new Roland TD5 module I am looking to dump or trade for a bass....
