Do loose bridge pins affect tone

I bought a used Taylor 555 12-string a while back and all the bridge pins are loose - no friction at all, but not an extreame amount of play either. I am able to string the guitar with no major problems but sometimes I think the sound is a little dull or fuzzy (the setup/action otherwise seems OK)

I bought a new set of pins from Taylor hoping it was the pins and not the bridge holes, but those were loose as well.

Do you think this would affect the guitar tone? Should I try to get some oversize pins? I saw some oversize pins on StewMac but those were for Martin style bridges so the taper was dferent and the pins had no slot.

Any thoughts?

Look for some rosewood or ebony pins. Usually they are a bit oversized and you can use fine-grit sandpaper to get to the diameter you need.

I have an '85 D-45L-Custom. Martin switched their pin supplier for a couple years in the 80's and the bridgepins on my 45 are larger than anything Martin currently sells.

One of these days I'll get them swapped out.
