I will be in the process of mixing my CD in a week or two. I play progressive rock/metal.
Any tips and tricks about processing bass guitar and drums?
Bass guitar and bass drum are very close in frequency range, so that makes it kind of difficult to achieve a perfect balance in the mix.
I am trying to get a bass drum sound ala: Mike Portnoy(Dream Theater), Lars Urlich(Metallica), or Vinie Paul(Pantera). I like that percussive nature of their tone. One other aspect of that tone is that you can perfectly hear double bass action through all the instruments in the mix. I am guessing it's a combination of EQ and compression. Any tips?
