anyone use a pod xt live .. A friend has a xt pro that sounds good on recording guitar trax and live..... I was considering the xt live so I could use it for
recording or live.... I currently own a spider 2 that sounds good but is basic..and sounds poor recorded ...and when cranked its thin at high volume.... Any input on the xt live?? should it sound similar to the xt pro??

They should be identical tone wise. The differences between the Live and the Pro are basically the rackmountablility and the studio connectors on the rear of the Pro. The Line 6 website has lots of good information regarding their Pod line.

I have the plain Pod XT and it is very good in the studio (All Pod XT, Live and Pro tones are interchangeable). Unless you can afford a 8,000 dollar rig then a Pod is a solid addon to your equipment.

I have the live. It is pretty good for me. I have no real amp, and like lot's of different sounds. I have found that the stock presets aren't all that great. I use either ones I have created, or ones I download from the Line 6 site. What kind of music do you generally play? This might need to be addressed. I like really hard, and chuggy stuff, so I downloaded one of the extra packs, to get some better amps for myself. It really helped me. May or may not help you. I also have found most presets need some tweaking, to get rid of the sounds you don't want.

I play a Variax 300 into a Pod XTL every Sunday at church. I play a wide variety of music but find myself using a Les Paul into a Marshall stack, a Strat into a Fender Twin and a Rick into a Vox on most songs, with occassional acoustic guitar settings, Casinos and Gretches on the Variax thrown in here and there...

If you can put the Pod directly into a good PA or sound system, I think the sound is better and certainly more versatile than most combo amps I have heard. And yes, you'll want to tweak settings and avoid relying on the presets.

FWIW....

I play mostly heavy ...drop c tuned rock.... have you recorded using xtl yet ??...how much were additional downloads?

I use a Pod XTL. As Dogman said, the presets aren't perfect but they do serve as good starting points for your user-defined settings.

Check out the Line 6 web site for additional model packs. The XTL comes loaded with a set of standard models + the FX Junkie pack.

I have been using mine for recording - no live work - and am very happy with it.

This is a great forum for Line 6 stuff

To clarify most of the tone's you can download are free, created by others. XTL has free software you can use on the PC to tweak everything. Lots of people offer bundles of presets you can pick and choose from or make your own.

For the price and depending on your use it's a great tool. Also most people recommend using a keyboard amp or other full range response amp for output. The stereo effects are fantastic recorded also.

wow I didn't know about these model packs. I'm seriously thinking about buying a guitarport. It's the same thing as buying the podxt if I get the model packs. for me since i'm only recording with it. Actually i'm thinking of buying the guitarport with the metal model pack. How do you think it would compare the the vamp2? I already have one of those.
