Anyone know about vintage guitars?

When i first thought of playing guitar about 8 years ago, i went to the local pawn shop and got myself a
mediumly priced bargain bin electric..

now, i'm of two thoughts...

one, this is really a piece of shit guitar worth nothing..

OR

two, it's a vintage worth something..

I haven't been able to find anything about on the net about it, but it is a MANN AJ-605R..

any help is appreciated.. i noticed a "MANN" vintage bass on ebay so this led me to believe this was similar..

i can take pictures if that helps..

Don't get too excited. I don't know about the guitar myself but if it seems like a piece of shit, maybe it is. Also why was it in the porn shop really if it were a nice vintage guitar?-your eight years with it don't make it one.

But maybe it is-good luck, it might be worth twenty times what you paid for.
 
There are several factors involved in the 'How much is this thing worth' equation.

1. Is it a name that every one recognizes?
2. Is it desirable?
3. Is it relatively rare?
4. Is it a custom color?
5. Is 'latest-cool-rock-star' playing one?
6. Was it made by the guy who went on to
start the hippest guitar company in the
world before he was famous?
7. Is it the guitar that was played by
a guitar idol of yesteryear that
today's 50-ish lawyers want because
it was played by their hero?
8. How much would it cost to replicate
it today?
9. Is it in mint, all-original condition?

I'm sure there are other factors that are not listed above.

I have never heard of Mann instruments. That doesn't mean that it isn't worth anything - for example, if Leo Fender had anything to do with it, it may be worth a lot. See #6 above.

... but I suspect that it's value is in what it is worth as a utility instrument.

For an unbiased and realistic estimate of it's value, call Gruhn Guitars in Nashville (www.gruhn.com), or Mandolin Brothers in Staten Island, New York (www.mandoweb.com)and they will be able to give you information on whether it is worth anything.

I'm not looking into this as a goldmine.. just curious as it's been sitting around for a while..

i'll check out those sites..

hey shawn! thanks for the tip about this place!

i made a new bbs logo for the place and they are using it!

and on the guitar..keep it and after you become famous then play it on stage and THEN it will be worth something!

I recall MANN from my pre teen guitar drooling days when we looked at the Gibsons and Fenders, but owned the Mann's, Norman's and Northern's.
A friend had a Mann LP copy, that cost him $99.00 bux from Sears in 1977 (in the days when it was Simpsons Sears) - the thing would never stay in tune, and the pickups would cut out in the middle of a solo.
I figure Mann was an offshore import into the Canadian market in the 70's. But you never know, there may be a rabid Mann collector out there somewhere (look at the Silvertone...). Cheers !
