How Loud do I turn up my pre-amp?

do I turn it up till where i can hear my voice in the headphones, do I turn it up to wheres theirs no static. but I noticed the more I turn it up; it catches my voice better, but its more static though, can anyone help me?

Is this the same Toob Pre the sales/recording expert at the store told you was better than the DMP3?

As a general rule, you turn it up until it starts distorting and then you turn it down until it stops.

Most equipment have some kind of meter indication to tell you that it is bout to start distorting, and then you keep it below that.

If it's too loud in your headphones, turn down the volume on the headphone amp. Not the mic preamp.
