Earphones: Does it get better than Bose?

I've been borrowing a friends Bose earphones for recording, and use it for mixing also because I don't have anything fancier yet. They work very nicely for me - no sound escapes while I'm recording, and the sound is good.

He's offered that I can buy them for $150-$200, which is a very good price considering that they're in absolutely perfect condition, very seldom used and lovingly handled. So before I bite the bullet I just want to know (because after that I can't afford any OTHER earphones!) - are they good earphones for the purpose or is there a better brand I can get for a similar price? I know they're not standard recording earphones but they are very good ...

Bose gear is designed to make things sound good, not accurate.

You'd be better off with Beyer (DT 770 ~$200), Sony (MDR V600 ~$200), Grado, or Sennheiser (HD 280 ~$100) for recording/tracking purposes. And ideally you wouldn't use headphones at all for mixing, but these will be pretty accurate for around the same price that your friend has offered you the Bose headphones.
