Disc At Once

I'm new to burning cds so work with me on this one . . . What is "Disc-at-once" ? It's an option on my burner software. What does it do and how does it benefit me, a guy burning audio cds? The manual is so cryptic on this issue that I can't make out what they're trying to say. Simple terms would help! THANK YOU!
 
So, if I wanted say, a five second space between songs, disc-at-once would ignore that command?
 
Disc at Once (DAO) records a disc in one go, without turning off the laser inbetween tracks, as opposed to track at once (TAO)recording, were the turning on/off of the laser for every new track causes at least a gap and sometimes also other unwanted effects. Good burner software, designed with audio recording in mind, like Feurio, Nero, CD architect, gives you full control over the silence between tracks. You can even choose to insert no silence at all between tracks and still create separate tracks, which is very useful for live recordings. TAO won't let you do that.
