Recording Cymbals

Now this may or may not be true but when recording drums, do you really need to tighten up the cymbals to get less sustain out of them? And will this clean up the sound. It sounds fishy to me but, nothing is ever set in the field of recording.

if you tighten up those knobs on your cymbals, your cymbals aren't going to move freely, so if you tighten them, eventually they are going to crack if you play hard. I use Mapex double braced stands, not only are they awesome cymbal stands, but they do not let you tighten that nut all the way to the cymbal.
