drummers :)

What to do if the drummer is playing the cymbals WAY too loud. And the rest of the kit too quiet? I can hear the cymbals in _everything_ even the kick mic. Not to talk about the hat bleeding into the snare.

Any bright ideas?

Try spraying them with a coat of clear laquer? Or you could try moving them 18" inches out from normal position.

Tell him (how you tell him depends on the relationship, friend or client etc.) that he needs to take a different approach to his drumming. Playing drums live, and playing drums recorded are two different things(music/style depending). Also, how are the mic's positioned and the kit layed out? If the cymbals are really close to the toms then you will have some problems, raise them up a bit. Position the other mic's to limit leakage, dead side pointed towards the cymbal/hats etc within reason. It may be that he is just not a very good drummer, if that's the case then you could either replace him or do your best to get him to adjust his playing style without compromising the performance. Easier said than done.
