First, thanks for reading this thread.

I recently decided to start recording an EP and have the basics down. When I am LOST is drums.

Here is what I want to do. Buy an electronic drum set and use it to trigger Drum Kits From Hell. I have a very talented drummer willing to do the work on my album and I don't want to mic acoustic drums.

I am set on going with digital drum route.

So...

What kit should I buy as a trigger for DFH? Any other info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

There's a whole world of equipment and options to consider when you decide to go with e-drums. You can do alot of DIY work and save alot of money while getting the same results as any retail solutions.

Your best bet to keep your drummer happy and the feel of his playing accurate would be to go with anything that has mesh drum heads as that's the most realistic feeling you can get.

If you don't plan on taking the kit out in the public any time soon where cosmetics aren't a concern, you can take any acoustic drum, put a mesh head on it and trigger it with either a storebought trigger or you can build yourself.

You can then link the triggers to a trigger to midi interface such as an Alesis Trigger I/O that will bridge the triggers to DFH.

The only reason I suggest the Alesis I/O is because of it's dual zone trigger capabilities and seems to be a popular device in the other communities I frequent.

You can check out vdrums dot com for a whole treasure trove of information there as well as that whole community specializes in your same end goal.
