Korg PC I/F MIDI Driver for Windows NT/2000/XP installation and setup

If the application (sequencer) you are using is compatible with Windows NT/2000/XP, using Korg PC I/F MIDI Driver will allow the Korg instrument connected to the serial port (COM or RS-232C) to be handled as a MIDI device.

n Setting up the Korg PC I/F MIDI Driver

1.  For the Serial Port setting, select the serial port to which the Korg instrument is connected from COM1 to COM4. You can use this serial port for other purposes while this MIDI port is not in use.
2.  If Independent Synth/MIDI Out is not checked, only Default MIDI can be used. Data that is output to Default MIDI will be sent to both internal sound generator and MIDI OUT. If Independent Synth/MIDI Out is checked, Default MIDI, MIDI Out, Synth-A and Synth-B can be used. But operation will depend on the instrument.
  • Instruments that can receive 32 channel MIDI IN independently [NS5R/NX5R/N1/N5 series etc.]
Data that is output to Default MIDI will be sent to both internal port (Port A) and MIDI OUT.
Data that is output to MIDI Out will be sent to MIDI OUT only so that the instrument does not sound. Data that is output to Synth-A or Synth-B will be sent to internal port of the instrument (Port A/Port B).
For data that is output to Default MIDI, operation will depend on the instrument's setting. Refer to the User's Manual of the instrument for more information.
  • Instruments that support Independent Synth/MIDI Out [TR-Rack, 05/X5 series, AG-3/10 etc.]
If Independent Synth/MIDI Out is checked, data that is output to Default MIDI will be sent to both internal port and MIDI OUT. Data that is output to Synth-A will be sent to internal port of the instrument. Synth-B is same as Synth-A
  • Instruments that don't support Independent Synth/MIDI Out [Triton, i/iS series, Pa80, XC/C/Ci piano series etc.]
Don't check Independent Synth/MIDI Out as those instruments don't support this feature.
3.  Synth Out Messages allows you to select the types of message that will be sent to the instrument. And MIDI Out Messages allows you to select the types of message that will be sent to MIDI OUT on the instrument.
4.  When you finish making settings, click the OK button. If you wish to cancel your settings, click Cancel.

n Troubleshooting

The computer locks up when booting into Windows 2000 if my instrument is switched on.
You may encounter this type of problem when the PC I/F cable in use is not fully compatible with the Korg AG-001. Some similarly looking cable may work fine with the Windows 95/98/Me, but may not with the Windows 2000/XP. The pin connection diagram of the AG-001 is shown in your instrument's owner's manual.
