Microphones for Harmonicas - The specialist ones, or keep it simple?

That was good, Rob. In my gigging and clubbing, I've seen and worked with several guys who were "the harmonica guy". They usually had their own carry cases for their gear, many were what appeared to be handmade from plywood and filled with foam cut out for their collection of harps, mics and cables. Some had only two or three harps in various octaves, others had six or eight along with several mics. Definitely professionals.

They're also weird in their keys - so if the song is in E, you grab the A harmonica, but if the song is in A, then its the D. It's the chord you get when you draw that is the vital one, not blow - I guess that's why the harp players always have more than one. No point turning up t play and discovering the band are in a key you didn't bring! Though I'm not a player, I can see why the serious folk might have a green Bullet or one of the others in their box - doing it with a 58 is much bigger in terms of the physical side. There's an advantage though maybe - that you don't need the amp miked up, or the DI approach - just grab the mic?
