    Sennheiser E840 or E845?

I bought 4 e845s a number of years ago. I recollect that I paid @ $72 each for them, new, including shipping. I have no idea what they currently street for. They are hotter mics than their Shure SM58 equivalent. I actually like the Audix OM5 or OM6 better for dynamic vocal mics. The e845s...

    I'm not gettig a Uke untill .....................

Yeah, Train has kind of put the whole thing front and center. Now less of a novelty instrument and more of a regular ensemble piece. A number of rock/alternative/americana bands in the Twin Cities have been using a uke as a regular instrument for the past several years.

There are open tunings for the uke, just like for guitars. And like guitars, open tunings will simplify chording in certain keys. A quick google search will get you more info than you can probably use. For example, there is a brief article on alternate tunings on this site: UkeThingy

Actually, I don't -- not what I have been recording, but let me see if i can throw something together - perhaps with some cowbell included in the rhythm track

Not a problem. Grew up in Hawaii on the Big Island. I'm "hapa" - half Chinese and half Caucasian. Took uke lessons as a child. In Hawaii it was/is the "recorder equivalent" in schools. One of the soprano ukes in the "family portrait" is mine from when I was a child.

Thanks! I now have a bari as well, but it didn't make the family portrait. Everyone should have one . . . or more. :D

Actually, what you do is move the strings around a bit and it will facilitate tuning to low G. You move the C string to where the G string is. You move the E string to where the C string was. You move the G string to where the E string was. You leave the A string alone. :D That gives you...

    Guitar For Young Kids

No need to be embarrassed. For a kid, you don't want to be spending a bundle on a reduced scale guitar that they will outgrow in a couple years. As long as the action and intonation are decent. It's amazing how decent cheap guitars are these days compared to 40 or 50 years ago. I recently...

    Used P/ups???

Yup. Pups usually either work or not - so you can tell right away whether they are any good. You will want the opportunity to return them if they don't work.

I need a new vocal mic

I have a U87. A nice older one - pre AI. Interestingly, when we shoot out mics for vocals, it usually gets beat out by an SM7. Good instrument mic though. In fact, for Rock and Americana, the SM7 usually beats out most other vocal mics I have including the aforementioned U87, AT4050, AKG...

    Guitar For Young Kids

If you decide to go the uke route, get a tenor or at least a concert sized uke. Easier to tune and keep in tune. Less "plinky". Consider a Fluke. They are pretty durable, stay in tune and sound pretty decent for a plastic back instrument and play well. I bought one for my daughter when she...

    5 grand to spend-mic pre

The lunch box solution gives you lots of options. You can get very good preamps in this form factor (pretty much all the high end ones mentioned in this thread have a 500 form pre). Then you can add additional pres as you have money or the need strikes. I currently have 2 X API 512c, 2 X A...

    Dual Purpose Hi End Compressor

I use a Drawmer 1968 for just that purpose. Works well and used ones pop up on GS from time to time for very reasonable money. The API recommendation is pretty good as well.

    Baby Taylor

Try a Larrivee Parlor. I like them better than the Taylor.
