It is actually neither for MIDI, it is velocity. If you are looking to edit it, take a look at this video, it might help you out or maybe I am off base here.

I can't say for sure, but is there some kind of clipping going on? Check your levels and if you need to, put a limiter on there to keep it away from 0. Might be something else, but there is something that doesn't sound right, might be me. It seems like it would be a good mix.
