Tascam FW-1082 with Windows 7 64 bits is not recgonized

Hello !

This is my first thread here and I am sure it is the right place to find answers about my problem. SO here it goes. It bought a used Tascam FW-1082 to use as a DAW controler for Cubase 8.5 Pro and Studio One Pro. The proble is that Windows does not recgonized it when I plug it in. Only the Stop light is lighted. I have installed the latest driver which is the 1.80 version.

In order to have an answer to my problem here is my setup:

HP ProBook 6560b (Intel Core i5-2450M CPU, 2.5 GHz, 12 Go Ram)
Firewire PCI Express Card: Startec EC13942
Windows 7 64Bits SP1

My audio card is a Focusrite Saffire Pro40 pluged into the same Startec card and it works fine.

Anyone here knows something about this problem? Can the Firewire ports on the Tascam malfunctioning?

Thank you very much !

Hi,

Any Firewire or USB device should retrieve a "string device identifier" on Windows Control Panel without installing the drivers. I recommend to uninstall/roll back the driver installation and check before if the TASCAM FW-1082 appears on Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager.

If the console is not detected before drivers installation something is wrong on the Firewire connection or the internal FW-1082 circuitry. Tascam FW-1082 units are affected by a capacitor issue on the PSU labeled C23 that fails and should be replaced. Another issue is when the firewire cable was plugged in a wrong way burning the TX/RX transceivers on the firewire end to end IC chips.

Hope this information should help, regards.

Hi Alfredo,
I recently purchased a FW-1082 very cheap with the intent to use it strictly as a control surface. I have a TI based card as required and have no communication with Windows 7 64Bit. This PSU Capacitor C23 is inside the unit or the External DC Power Brick?

I also have a FW-1082 that works great on Mac OS 10. 5 ??? basically the last known OS that works with the unit. I also have a Windows XP system that works great as well with the FW, but that computer, like the Mac, came standard with FireWire. I've heard nothing but trouble with outboard chip-sets, except for the TI brand, but man that was years ago... I just know that it's a matter of finding the right card!
Best of luck to you!
