Basic issue

I have a brand new Tascam Studio dp-008ex and I plug the headphones in and I can't hear the demo. Is it something wrong with my headphones. Does anybody know what's going on. If I can't hear anything then I can't use a machine.

Make sure you have the volume turned up on the wheel next to your phones jack.

If that's not it, I must say when I first plugged in the supplied phones with my new Tascam DP03SD Porta Studio, I had the volume all the way up and I couldn't hear a thing. I jiggled and twisted the jack and the left ear came on - then a little more, the right ear joined the party. After plugging and unplugging several times the problem went away. I have no idea...
