Using Cubase alongside other recording editing software?

Other than the fact that the Protools drivers can be problematic with other drivers, I have done so fine after wrestling with them for a while. If you're going to use the same hardware for both (likely Maudio I suppose), then it should go easier. They';re just drivers after all. If you're going to use different hardware for each as i did, expect a little wrangling with keeping the PT drivers from pooping all over your other drivers.

Is it ok to use Cubase and for example Protools on the same PC,but obviously not at the same time?

Computers dont care if other programs are sitting on your hard drive NOT running.
Generally true. HOWEVER, when they putz with the same resources (registry settings, etc), lots of fun and hilarity ensue.

Also, drivers compete for resources.

I doubt separate partitions will do anything here. It;'s not a disk access issue, at least what I've seen.

And then again, you may not experience any issues at all. But I did.
