Hybrid setup with cubase

Gents I am running a hybrid setup using an analog desk with cubase 7 running through a motu 24 i/o setup.

Now my question is i have just purchased a 2nd motu 24 i/o to allow more flexibility both for external routing and outputs.

I want to run my analog fx sends and group insert in from the desk in to cubase for processing to then route back to the desk to allow me to use the desk to its full routing capability essentially having that analog feel but with the digital flexibilty for plugins.

cubase doesn't allow me to set inputs for group or fx channels so how would it be best to set this up?

Jimmy i am kinda hoping you would know as you are a cubase wizz.

I don't have a setup where I use outboard gear other than on the way in.

I would assume you will have to setup all of your outs from the board to the MOTU then treat them as Audio tracks in Cubase. Then send those tracks back out to the mixer. Not the way I do things so...

Sorry I am not much help here man. :(

You dont even need to use "group" or "FX" channels.
Just setup an audio input and output for each physical I/O.. (if this part is labled intuitively, the whole thing will be intuitive)
then set up an audio track in cubase with the INPUT from your aux or group send, and OUTPUT to your return.. and use the audio channel's plugin section for your effects.

A group channel or FX channel is really no different than a regular audio channel- except for what can be routed to it. Its just organizational.
After you create Audio tracks.. you SHOULD be able to drag them to any other "group" or FX" channels you have if you want them to sit there in your mixer window :)

PS- hows your latency with this? it sounds like a good idea...but one that could go horribly wrong :)

I agree with Camn - that's how I do it (or at least did do it) as my pile of synths and effects devices rarely get connected because plugins for me are doing the job better.
